University of Helsinki Master's Programme Scholarship
The University of Helsinki Master's Programme Scholarship is part of the university's scholarship programme designed for excellent tuition fee-liable students from outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland pursuing a Master's programme. It consists of tuition fee waivers: 50% or 100% coverage of the tuition fee, which ranges from 13,000 to 18,000 EUR per academic year depending on the programme. The majority of scholarships are 50% waivers, and availability is very limited. Scholarships do not cover living expenses; recipients must fund those independently. The duration is two years, contingent on full-time study progress (at least 55 ECTS credits per year), with continuation reviewed after the first year.
Scholarships are awarded based on academic excellence, including previous academic performance, motivation letters, and the applicant's grant application rationale, aligned with general Master's entrance requirements and university strategic goals. Selection is conducted by individual Master's programmes following assessment of the degree and scholarship applications. Results are communicated via the official acceptance email. Recipients must accept the scholarship agreement and meet conditions like tuition payment (for 50% waivers) before registering as attending students.
This programme supports talented international students in accessing high-quality English-taught Master's education at one of Europe's top research universities, fostering global talent in diverse fields from sciences to humanities. Alumni from qualifying UH Bachelor's programmes may also receive waivers based on GPA.
