Argonne National Laboratory SULI Program

United States · IllinoisUndergraduateEntry ID: PR-04813

The Argonne National Laboratory SULI Program is part of the DOE Science Undergraduate Laboratory Internships (SULI), a paid internship opportunity sponsored by the DOE Office of Science’s Office of Workforce Development for Teachers and Scientists in collaboration with DOE national laboratories including Argonne. Undergraduate students and recent graduates conduct hands-on research mentored by leading scientists at Argonne, utilizing state-of-the-art facilities in areas such as renewable energy, supercomputing, materials discovery, advanced batteries, and more. Interns gain exposure to multidisciplinary research teams, enhancing skills, professional networks, and career prospects in STEM fields.

Terms include 10-week summer sessions (May-August) or 16-week fall/spring semesters (August-December or January-May). Argonne, located 25 miles southwest of Chicago on 1,500 acres, offers unique access to world-class user facilities like the Advanced Photon Source and Argonne Leadership Computing Facility. The program supports DOE missions in energy security, environmental sustainability, and national security through cutting-edge basic and applied research.

Participants receive stipends, potential housing and travel support, and professional development. Applications are submitted centrally via the DOE system, with applicants selecting Argonne as a preferred host lab based on research interests matching Argonne's priority areas.
