Brookhaven National Laboratory Science Undergraduate Laboratory Internship

United States · New YorkUndergraduateEntry ID: PR-27060

The Science Undergraduate Laboratory Internship (SULI) at Brookhaven National Laboratory, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science, provides undergraduate students and recent graduates in STEM fields with hands-on research experience. Participants work with leading scientists on projects aligned with DOE missions in areas such as nuclear physics, particle physics, collider-accelerator science, isotope research, and more, using state-of-the-art facilities at Brookhaven. The program offers mentorship, professional development, and opportunities to present research results, potentially contributing to scientific publications.

Internships last 10 weeks for summer terms (May-August) or 16 weeks for fall (August-December) and spring (January-May) terms, requiring full-time commitment. Stipends are provided weekly (e.g., $650 noted in some BNL materials, though varies by lab), along with housing, on-site transportation, and round-trip travel for those living over 50 miles away. The program enhances skills, networks, and career prospects in science and technology.

Brookhaven, one of 17 DOE labs, participates actively, with recent terms like 2025 Spring documented. Applications are managed centrally by DOE WDTS, with lab selection during the process. The program is active, with Fall 2026 applications open as of March 2026.
