The Summer Systematics Institute (SSI) at the California Academy of Sciences is an immersive research internship program designed for undergraduate students interested in biodiversity, evolutionary biology, and systematics. Over the course of eight weeks, participants work closely with Academy scientists on research projects, gaining hands-on experience in specimen-based research, molecular lab techniques, and data analysis. The program includes professional development workshops, seminars, and a final research symposium where students present their findings
Eligibility Requirements
- Must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or have DACA status.
- Must be a current undergraduate student at the time of application.
- Demonstrated interest in biodiversity, evolutionary biology, and systematics.
- Students from groups underrepresented in the sciences, including racial/ethnic minorities, first-generation college students, and students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, are encouraged to apply.
