The CHCI Congressional Internship Program (CIP), managed by the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI), provides undergraduates from diverse backgrounds with the opportunity to gain experience in public policy, leadership, and service through a 10-week (summer) or 12-week (fall) internship in Washington, D.C. The program is specifically designed to support students who are passionate about public service and interested in careers in policymaking, law, or government. Participants are placed in congressional offices on Capitol Hill, where they assist with day-to-day office operations, attend briefings and hearings, and conduct legislative research. The program includes weekly leadership and professional development sessions, networking opportunities, and a focus on community service.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Enrollment: Applicants must be currently enrolled full-time in an accredited undergraduate institution or have graduated recently in the term before the internship session.
  • Academic Standing: Must maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Citizenship: Open to U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, asylees, or individuals authorized to work full-time in the U.S. without restriction.
  • Commitment: Demonstrated interest in public service, leadership, and policy-related work.
  • Diverse Backgrounds: Students from economically or educationally disadvantaged backgrounds or who have overcome significant challenges are encouraged to apply.
