The SAMHSA Internship Program is designed to provide undergraduate and graduate students with practical work experience in the fields of substance abuse and mental health. Interns will have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects that support SAMHSA’s mission to reduce the impact of substance abuse and mental illness on America's communities. The program offers placements in different departments, providing exposure to various aspects of mental health and substance abuse policy, research, and program implementation. Interns will gain hands-on experience, participate in professional development activities, and contribute to important projects

Eligibility Requirements

  • U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  • Enrolled in a degree-seeking program (BA/BS, Masters, JD, MD, or Ph.D.) and have completed at least one year.
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA.
  • Fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
