Urban Institute Research Internship

United States · WashingtonUndergraduateGraduateEntry ID: PR-42991

The Urban Institute's Summer@Urban internship program is a 10-week paid opportunity for students to collaborate with experts in economics, policy, sociology, communications, and data science. Interns contribute to impactful research and analysis that informs policymakers, advocates, and leaders on issues affecting communities across the US. The program emphasizes real-world application of skills in a supportive environment located in Washington, DC, the hub of public policy.

Key features include a welcome orientation, networking with senior professionals and operations staff, professional development workshops focusing on soft skills, team-building activities with fellow interns, ongoing mentoring and feedback from managers, and culminating in end-of-summer 'lightning talks' where interns present their contributions. Research internships are available within specific centers (e.g., Health Policy Center, Income and Benefits Policy Center), involving tasks like literature reviews, data analysis, policy synthesis, and supporting senior staff in evidence-based recommendations.

The program fosters professional growth and exposure to nonprofit policy research operations. Applications are posted on Workday when available.
