Since 1949, the P.E.O. International Peace Scholarship (IPS) Fund has supported women from outside the United States and Canada pursuing graduate degrees at accredited U.S. or Canadian institutions (and, since 1951, international students attending Cottey College), with the aim of fostering global peace through education. Recipients are expected to carry what they learn back to their home countries. Across all of P.E.O.'s education projects combined (ELF, IPS, PCE, PSA, and STAR), the organization has given approximately $490 million to more than 132,000 women since its founding in 1869.
