The Maria Mitchell Aquarium Internship offers students the chance to immerse themselves in marine science and conservation while working at the Maria Mitchell Aquarium on Nantucket Island. Interns are involved in daily aquarium operations, which include the care and maintenance of local marine species, exhibit creation, and general husbandry. Students also help with public education programs, providing tours, answering visitor questions, and assisting with marine science outreach efforts.
Eligibility Requirements
- Educational background in marine science, biology, environmental science, or related field with at least two (2) years of college experience.
- Some degree of marine science experience which may include coursework, study abroad, internship, volunteering, lab work, etc.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- CPR and First Aid certified, or willing to be certified by the start of the internship.
- Able to pass a safe driving test to be qualified to drive company vehicles to outbound field trips.
